Heidi Fenton, Marriage and Family Therapy Intern
Heidi is currently a graduate student at Friends University working towards a master’s degree in Family Therapy. She earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Tulsa and has worked as a pediatric critical care nurse for the past 19 years. Heidi has spent her career helping children and their families during what was most likely one of the most challenging and stressful times in their lives. She has walked along side families as they cared for their children during times of illness and stress.
As a Marriage and Family Therapist student intern, Heidi works with individuals, couples, and families in order to help them find joy and peace within their lives. She has a special interest in helping children and their caregivers on issues related to attachment, trauma, bonding, and adoption.
In addition to the rigorous coursework and internship for her degree program, Heidi has received training in family play therapy, attachment play therapy, Theraplay, TBRI (Trust Based Relational Intervention), and EMDR. When working with families and children, she uses a very playful and engaging approach to help facilitate change and healing.
In her spare time, Heidi enjoys traveling with her family, shopping, and crafting. In the winter, she takes every opportunity she can to hit the slopes while in the summer she enjoys relaxing with a good book on the beach. In addition to her internship, Heidi is an active volunteer in the international adoption community and loves volunteering at her children’s school.
Counseling sessions with an intern are offered at a discounted rate of $40 per session.
